In 2012 Texas State University had no communities that supported individuals living with mental illness, or for the people who support those individuals. I took it upon myself, along with the dozen other people pictured to the right, to start a university chapter of the National Association of Mental Illness in 2013. We called the club NAMI Cats in honor of our mascot, the mighty and powerful Bobcat!
Together, we have hosted events which bring awareness to the issues facing college kids regarding mental health and we encourage a dialogue about mental health in hopes of reducing stigma in our immediate communities.
As Secretary and Treasurer for NAMI Cats, I was responsible for monthly scheduling of events and meetings, coordinating funds for food, activities, and resources, arranging and supervising community service opportunities, and recruitment.
